Family and Individual Support

Family and Individual support is about supporting those who live or work in the Belconnen region. All assistance is free and confidential.

Family Support workers can assist by:

  • Providing you with information, referral and advocacy
  • Confidential one to one support for individuals and families
  • Assistance with problem-solving and decision-making
  • Information on parenting issues

We can assist people to manage problems by exploring different strategies and options. To obtain further information contact our Intake officer on 6264 0200.

Intake

Intake offers you an information and referral service at Belconnen Community Service.

Our Intake worker can:

  • be available when you need someone to talk to right now
  • tell you about services available at BCS and other agencies
  • help you to find the most appropriate support service

Community Education

Groups are offered four times a year during school terms only. Topics include:

  • Anger management for men
  • Parenting
  • Moving On and Feeling Good

Bookings are essential.

Group Cost: $50 (Concession $30)

Local Neighbourhood Network

This program assists people in the Belconnen area and focuses on developing friendships, community links and other information.

Free childcare is offered and craft skills are learnt.

Latham Parents Group

  • Latham Primary School

Building Love on Strenthened Spirit (BLISS)

  • Kippax Health Centre
  • Fridays 9.30 am - 12.30 pm (school term only)
  • Child care provided

English Conversation Group

  • Belconnen Community Centre
  • Thursdays 10.00 am - 12.00 pm (school term only)

West Belconnen Good Beginnings

This is an early intervention and prevention program assisting families with children under the age of five living in the West Belconnen area. (West Belconnen is identified as Flynn, Fraser, Charnwood, Macgregor, Holt, Higgins, Dunlop and Latham).

Trained volunteers known as community parents provide support in families’ own homes one or two hours per week.

There is a coffee’n’chat morning offered.

Playgroup offered at Charnwood Girl Guide Hall Tuesdays 9.30 am to 11.30 am school term only. Contact Community Workers on 6278 8100.

HomeBase

This is a free early intervention program for families in the Belconnen area and is provided in partnership with Centrelink.

The program is specifically for families who may be at risk of losing their accommodation or home. As a number of situations can contribute to this, the HomeBase Team provides flexible, confidential and practical support, outreach, information and case management services.

Opening Hours: Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm; other hours by appointment.

Community Linkages, Community Development Program

The linkages programs work with residents of Housing ACT and community housing tenants in Belconnen, Gungahlin and Hall to support new ideas for community groups and activities.

  • Illawarra Court Support
  • Walk 'n' Talk (Gunghalin)
  • Playgroup in the Park (Dunlop)
  • Fun Days (Charnwood)

Gungahlin Singles Accomodation

This program assists tenants of the housing complex in Gungahlin.

Pathways to work

This is a course offered in Term 2 2007 to assist women to enter or re-enter the workforce. The topics covered include job interviewing, writing resumes and confidence. This is a free course, but bookings are essential.

Fun Days

This is a program that operates during school holidays. It includes free activities, lunch and fruit for the whole family.
