SUNDANCE AWARD WINNER SET TO LAUNCH DOC SOUP SERIES; SUBSCRIPTIONS STILL AVAILABLE

Hot Docs is pleased to announce that the 2007-08 Doc Soup screening series will launch with the Toronto premiere of Charles Ferguson's critically-acclaimed NO END IN SIGHT, a jaw-dropping chronicle of the incompetence, recklessness and venality that led to Iraq's descent into guerilla war. Hailed by Time Magazine as "the most important movie you are likely to see this year" and the New York Times as a "sober, revelatory and absolutely vital film", NO END IN SIGHT won the Special Jury Prize (Documentary) at this year's Sundance Film Festival. NO END IN SIGHT screens on Wednesday, October 3, at 6:30 and 9:15 pm at the Bloor Cinema, 506 Bloor Street West. Director Charles Ferguson will be in attendance.

Based on over 200 hours of footage, NO END IN SIGHT provides a candid retelling of the events following the fall of Baghdad in 2003 by high ranking officials as well as Iraqi civilians, American soldiers, and prominent analysts. It examines the manner in which the principal errors of U.S. policy - the use of insufficient troop levels, allowing the looting of Baghdad, the purging of professionals from the Iraqi government, and the disbanding of the Iraqi military - largely created the insurgency and chaos that engulf Iraq today.

How did a group of men with little or no military experience, knowledge of the Arab world or personal experience in Iraq come to make such flagrantly debilitating decisions? NO END IN SIGHT dissects the people, issues and facts behind the Bush Administration's decisions and their consequences on the ground to provide a powerful look into how arrogance and ignorance turned a military victory into a seemingly endless and deepening nightmare of a war.

Advance tickets for NO END IN SIGHT go on sale September 17 online at www.hotdocs.ca <http://www.hotdocs.ca/> .

EVENTS

NATIONAL ACTING SCHOOL FUNDRAISING EVENT Friday 31st August, 7.30pm, Canberra RSL Club, Moore St Civic, $10 Why are we Fund-Raising you ask?  The National Acting School does not survive on fees alone.  The few events that we do run are used to increase visibility and support for the School as well as raising funds to assist with those things that fees don't cover.  Yes it is a business but those who work in the Arts will know that as well as paying rent for rooms and covering lesson preparation time we contribute in many other ways in private time with passion and commitment.  Behind the scenes Bobby and others do many things to keep the school open and functioning e.g. paying for and running the web site, preparing people for auditions (often at short notice), use of film equipment and editing time, giving advice and counsel to current and ex-students after hours and at weekends and most importantly identifying and organizing acting opportunities for current and ex-students for no payment.  If we had to rely on fees alone the School would not exist.  So support the passion and help keep the School as successful at it is and remember classes are only the tip of the iceberg!

All enquiries or bookings should be directed to Bobby Farquhar at bobbyfarquhar@optusnet.com.au <http://au.f567.mail.yahoo.com/ym/Compose?To=bobbyfarquhar@optusnet.com.au>
